Our Instructor
Susan, "Mrs. Schwartz", trained at the Phoenix School of Ballet, and danced professionally with Ballet Arizona under Jean Paul Comelin and then regional companies in North Carolina where she began teaching professionally. She taught at various studios while earning her BS in Zoology at ASU. She became the co director of the ballet department at Plumb Performing Arts Center where she founded the Youth Ballet Ensemble for children and young adults. She staged and produced several original ballets including The Little Match Girl.
A certified instructor of the Vaganova Technique, Susan has been teaching for over 30 years. Some of her students have gone on to have dancing careers of their own, in ballet companies, modern companies, the Rockettes, Concert tours, television series, and even a So You Think You Can Dance champion.
In addition to teaching classical ballet, Susan is active in youth community theatre. Her most recent productions were directing and choreographing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Little Women, and the Mouse That Roared.
Susan has been married for over 30 years and is the proud mother of nine children from age 27 to 5 and has one granddaughter.
